Nancy Chalex, Ed.D. has over thirty years of experience as a teacher, building principal, and literacy consultant. She has taught at all levels from early childhood classes to graduate level courses and is particularly interested in professional development that improves teachers' impact on children's literacy acquisition. In addition, Nancy has significant experi- ence with second language and special education populations as well as Title I schools.

Under Nancy's dynamic leadership, Thomas Jefferson School located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2000-2001 and was a host school for ASQ Koalaty Kid International visit in April 2002.

Nancy is a recognized presenter at local, state, and national conferences on topics related to literacy. Her conference pres- entations include ASCD, IRA, Illinois IRA, Arizona IRA, New Mexico IRA, ASU Language and Literacy Conference, Northwest Kansas Reading Conference, IAMME, AAGT, and the National Staff Development Council. Additionally, she was the keynote speaker at the 2008 Grand Canyon Conference. Further, she is trained as a Lincoln Foundation Examiner and has expertise in continuous improvement approaches to school reform.

Nancy currently works nationally as an educational consultant. She has worked in close to 30 states and Puerto Rico. In Arizona she has worked in the following districts: Tempe, Peoria, Washington, Liberty, Balsz, Wilson, Deer Valley, Littleton, Murphy, Paradise Valley, Cartwright, Flagstaff, Aguila, Tucson, Whiteriver, and various Charter and Independent Schools.
